FOOD SECURITY AND MODERN CHALLENGES OF AGRIBUSINESS DEVELOPMENT IN GEORGIA

Summary 

The article assesses the problem of food safety as a major challenge for the country's economic development. Food safety is discussed in terms of quantitative, qualitative and socio-economic components.  Fixed changes in component are studied in dynamics, we made conclusion that self-sufficiency rates for agro-food products have improved slightly.

The article identifies important problems in terms of food safety in Georgia and we justified to hindering factors in agribusiness development (Low productivity in the field of raw materials production, small scale production and large scale inequality, ineffective use of resource potential, underdeveloped retail and wholesale food fairs, low level of co-operation, low level of knowledge of farmers, incomplete legislative basis, and etc.) Based on factor evaluation is proposed ways to overcome obstacles to agribusiness development.

The article provides conclusions and appropriate recommendations on achieving food security and developing agribusiness in Georgia.
